Sundays R 4 Kids!

Memory Verses

Sept - Psalm 51:9-10, 12 "Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me... Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you."

God Speaks in Many Ways
God speaks in many ways and it can take practice to hear what he may be saying. That's what this challenge is: a chance to practice hearing God! Here is how you can participate each week (memory verses are at the bottom of the page):

  1. Find some time for yourself or together with others in your family to listen to God. You may even go to a special place where you might not get distracted. Ask God this question: Who would you like me to serve this week?

  2. Wait for an answer. It might be the first person you think of, or the one that you just keep thinking of. Once you think you know, ask: How would you like me to serve this person this week? Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to show his love for them. So we're asking God: who can we serve this week in order to show his love, and how?

  3. Again, wait for an answer. You might get a picture in your mind. You could share that with your parents/family/friends, or draw it. A story, memory, or even song or movie could come to mind. If you're not sure if that's God, ask him what it means! If you feel like your mind is blank and you’re not hearing anything from God, even after waiting, don’t be discouraged. Keep asking God the same questions as you go about your day or come back to it at another time, and keep listening! God loves speaking to us - sometimes it’s just not in the way we expect.

  4. When you have decided what God said, go and do it! And guess what, even if you're not 100% sure, give it a go anyway. After all, we're practising. Parents: our challenge is not only to listen to what God is speaking to us personally, but to listen to what he is speaking to our kids and to help them carry it out. Trust them. If God challenges them to give money to a certain homeless person, for example, it is not for us to say that it is not God.

  5. Share your testimony! We would love to hear stories of how people heard God speak and would encourage you to share to the Facebook page or email Mike Labun at [email protected] and he can share on your behalf or anonymously if you prefer. These stories encourage us that God can speak to us, and it encourages us as parents that God does speak to our kids. And this isn't just for kids! We challenge everyone to do this listening exercise this week!
